Adding A Favicon To Your Website

When you visit a website and there is a small icon next to the URL address, this icon is called a favicon. To add a favicon to the URL box for your website, follow these instructions:

1. You need an icon. There are plenty of icons on your pc to pick from. Use windows search and look for *.ico or you can create one: go here
2. Upload the icon to your directory online, the same location of the index.html
3. Rename the icon online to favicon.ico
4. Add both lines below to the head of your index.html page:

<link rel="icon" type="image/ico" href="favicon.ico"></link>
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico"></link>

The favicon is essentially a 16x16 pixels image. If you create your custom icon using an image editor like Gimp (free image editor) and save it as a .jpg or .bmp file, then use this tool to convert it to a .ico file. When your done, you can continue on with step two above.
