Arc-fault circuit interrupters are devices that recognize when arcing faults are occurring in circuits. When arc-faults occur, arc-fault circuit interrupters open the circuit path to prevent the fault from continuing. Arcs may occur between circuit wires or across a discontinuity in one of the circuit wires, or between an ungrounded circuit wire and a grounded object.
