An electrical connector is a conductive device for joining electrical circuits together. Connectors come in many different shapes and sizes based upon the circuits being connected. The circuits being connected can be internal to a device or an external wire. The connection may be temporary while the connection is necessary or it may be a permanent electrical joint between the two circuits. The connector may be connected and removed by hand or may require a tool for assembly and removal. Connectors usually follow industry standards implemented by organizations like the IEEE. Having standards for connectors simplifies things for manufacturers, engineers, field technicians, customers and ensures compatibility among different devices.
