HTTP is the protocol used to transfer hypertext. All information in HTTP sessions is exchanged in plaintext over the network. The HTTP protocol is used to exchange URL-referenced documents between clients and servers using TCP/IP. Currently, most clients and servers support the most recent version of HTTP (HTTP/1.1) with some extensions added on, and most are backward compatible with HTTP/0.9.
