HTTP Request Lines

The first line in HTTP requests is called the request line and they have three parts:

  1. The request method (usually GET or POST)
  2. The URL path to the requested resource (all the folders and the filename, but not the hostname; e.g. /images/wrm_logo.png)
  3. The HTTP version (usually HTTP/1.1)

Here is an example of a full HTTP request line:

GET /images/wrm_logo.png HTTP/1.1
