On March 7th, 2012, Apple announced the release of their third generation iPad. To everyone's surprise it was not called iPad 3 or iPad HD, but Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, referred to it as the "new iPad". This will be the first model iPad released since the death of Steve Jobs.
The new iPad is built with a higher screen resolution and picture quality than the iPad 2. The new iPad is also equipped with a new camera and wireless network chip. The new wireless network chip will give the new iPad access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.
In 2011, Apple had more than 60% of the tablet market share and sold over 40 million iPads. Android tablets are expected to increase their market share in 2012, but the new iPad should still be very successful.
