Polarized plugs are plugs that prevent reversing the hot and neutral sides of a circuit. They have a wider neutral prong than the hot prong and therefore can be inserted into outlets in only one way. You can tell a plug is polarized when you go to plug it in and have to spin it around to allow it to go in properly.
