Splicing is the act of connecting the stripped ends of two or more wires. This is usually done by just twisting the wires together, but you can also solder them together. After the wires have been twisted together you can cover the bare wires and seal the connection by either screwing a wire nut on top of the spliced wires or cover the wires with heat-shrink tubing (the heat-shrink tubing is usually placed on one of the wires before having the wire spliced).
