The system ground is how the entire electrical system is grounded. When grounding the electrical system of a house or building, typically a thick wire is connected to a rod that is driven deep into the ground or that thick wire is clamped to a cold water pipe. Both methods are acceptable ways of grounding the electrical system of a house or building.
