An automobile has a 12-volt direct current (DC) electrical system. By using the direct current from the battery the flow of electricity will stay in the same direction and at the same voltage (or pressure). It flows from positive to negative, from plus (+) to minus (-), or red to black. This is the basis for all electrical work on a car.
