The Three Components of a Circuit

When looking at electrical circuits, there should be three components that are always present:

  • Power Source (i.e. battery)
  • Load Device (i.e. headlight)
  • Ground Return (i.e. ground wire)

These are physical objects that can actually be seen and touched. When any one of these three components goes missing in a circuit, the circuit stops working. The three things listed listed above are all necessary and must be present in order for the circuit to work properly. Look for these three components while troubleshooting your circuits.
