Traveler Wires

In a three-way switch circuit, there are two switches that control one light (or other electrical device). Each switch has four terminals:

The two traveler wires connect the two switches using the two traveler terminals (both at the top of the switch).

One common terminal on one switch brings the power into the three-way circuit from the service panel. The other common terminal, on the other switch, brings power to the light (or other electrical device) in the three-way circuit.
