An underwriters knot is a special knot used to tie the wires in a lamp socket. When you tie the wires into an underwriters knot, right below the socket, the knot will prevent the wires from getting pulled out. Instead, if you pull on a lamp cable, the pressure is placed on the knot and not on the wire terminals on the socket. These knots will help make sure your lamp has a longer life before needing repair.
