A grant award can be used for whatever the grantor wants to fund. When applying for the grant make sure to read the funding guidelines closely. If you can communicate to them that you will spend the money similar to their vision, will increase your chance for success.

Some grant awards come with no strings attached, but most will require you to use the funds in a certain way. Grantors with a lot of funding requirements are almost always government grant-making agencies (local, state, and federal public sector funders).

Grantors with few funding requirements are usually private sector funders. These grantors usually include corporate and foundation grant makers. Depending on how you plan on using your grant money will determine which grants you will apply for. There is no sense in applying for grants in which you don't meet their funding guidelines.
