Service Panels / Circuit Breaker Boxes / Fuse Boxes
A service panel is typically a grey box found in your basement. They mark the location where power enters the home. The power enters the service panel and is divided into branch circuits. The service panel contains fuses or circuit breakers which prevent these branch circuits from getting overloaded with too much current. By preventing overloaded circuits, service panels add a layer of safety, because without the fuses or circuit breakers overheating and possibly fires may result. Other names for service panels include circuit breaker box, breaker box, fuse box, panel box, and main panel.
