Django is an open source application framework that is written in Python. It is a great framework for database-driven websites. It follows the MVC (model-view-controller) architectural pattern:

  • Model: An object-relational mapper that mediates between data models (Python classes) and a relational database
  • View: A system for processing requests with a web templating system
  • Controller: A regular-expression-based URL dispatcher

Django's version 1.6 was released on November 6th, 2013. It is maintained by the Django Software Foundation (DSF) non-profit. Django is currently used by Pinterest and Instagram.
